WHS / HSE Advisor

About The Role

QDC has an exciting opportunity for a WHS Advisor to join our dynamic team!

As an advisor in Work Health and Safety, you will play a vital role in promoting safe behaviours and practices within our construction projects. You will be a confident communicator and advisor, working closely with site leaders and subcontractors, providing expert guidance and support to ensure the safest methods and practices are employed. Your ability to collaborate effectively, have a practical (or trade level) understanding of the construction process and thrive amongst the dynamic pace of site life will make this your dream job.

This role will give you variety working across multiple sites on a range of different sized projects, primarily in the Perth Metro area with occasional regional and interstate travel, ensuring you’re home almost every night!

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with site leaders and subcontractors to identify and address potential safety hazards and risks.
  • Provide guidance and support in implementing QDC health and safety plans and protocols for construction projects.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Review Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and be able to read construction plans to identify risks, hazards and opportunities to improve safety on site.
  • Participate in delivering safety training programs and initiatives to enhance awareness and promote safe work practices.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss occurrences, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, and training activities.
  • Stay up to date with industry regulations, standards, and best practices to ensure compliance.
  • Travel to our metro, regional and interstate sites as required. Mostly going home every night except where scheduled travel is necessary.

What You Need To Excel In The Role

About You/What You Need to Succeed:

  • Proven experience as a Safety Advisor, or similar role within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, equipment, and terminology.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and drawings.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and best practices in the construction industry including high risk work on a typical industrial build (see our website for more)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences in a simple and clear manner.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with safety management software (Procore and 1Breadcrumb would be advantageous)
  • Relevant certifications such as Cert IV WHS min and First Aid.
