Sandvik Heavy Duty Workshop (MBA Winner Best Industrial Building $5-10M 2022)

Client Hesperia Build Time 10 months Location Kenwick, WA Contract Type Design and Construct

QDC delivered a state-of-the-art heavy duty workshop and office facility for our client Sandvik, an international specialist in mining services, rock excavation and processing. The dedication and hard work demonstrated by the QDC team, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers throughout the delivery program was rewarded when this facility won the Best Industrial Building Award in its category in the MBA Awards 2022.

The completed project boasted a 4,000m² workshop which comprised 3x overhead cranes, 1,800m² canopy, 8,900m² heavy duty hardstand 3 overhead cranes, spray booth, purpose-built wash down bay, and an architecturally designed 500m² two storey office. In addition to this, the project incorporated sustainable, low embodied carbon concrete throughout the site, including a burnished concrete workshop floor, which is a first in Western Australia.

“On behalf of Boral, I commend Q Design & Construction for their commitment in assisting to achieve a sustainable development at Roe Highway Logistics Park. Our solution was to offer ENVISIA, a low embodied carbon, high performance concrete. Over a period of six months, QDC worked closely with the Boral team and together, we refined the ENVISIA mix to allow for the product to be used on all aspects of the facility.

The excellent result achieved through this partnership have enabled Boral to fast-track ENVISIA to the WA market, presenting an environmental success for the wider industry.

Congratulations to QDC on supporting the development of ENVISIA and delivering it to the state. The work and commitment to get to this point demonstrates true environmental leadership.”
