Design Manager

About The Role

With strong growth continuing in the Design and Construct Industrial sector, we are looking for an additional Design Manager to join the Pre-Construction team. This role has a technical and engineering focus and will work across multiple project teams to infuse design experience, technical know-how and strong commercial outcomes throughout all phases of our projects, with increased focus and intensity during design and major procurement.

The Design Manager will provide advice and guidance on a range of engineering and design issues over multiple projects concurrently. The role is responsible for managing external consultants, internal resources, developing design scopes, to produce quality construction documentation. The role will provide technical support to both develop subcontract scope of works and assist the project delivery team, review designs for completeness, compliance to Contract and statutory requirements, standards and constructability, interrogating the technical specialist advice from subject matter experts to resolve design challenges. With the goal of achieving great design outcomes, value engineering, providing robust technical solutions to our clients while improving constructability, sustainability and safety.

About you

You will be a highly focused, detail-oriented, collaborative and driven person who is passionate about contributing to the delivery of practical, efficient industrial and commercial structures, working within a high-performing multidisciplinary project team to drive exceptional outcomes. You will be a qualified Civil or Structural Engineer or similar discipline with experience working on projects of up to $75M. You will enjoy a fast-paced, problems solving, performance-focused workplace where you will have the opportunity to work autonomously and develop your career.
The ability to build, influence and maintain strong relationships with key consultants, clients, subcontractors and project delivery teams is fundamental to the success of this role.

What You Need To Excel In The Role

  • Prepare consultant briefings and scope, coordination and program as well as obtaining construction certificates
  • Manage and prepare documents from “Design Brief/Concept” to “For Construction”
  • Monitor, review and verify design documents to improve design outcomes and resolve design discrepancies, clashes, errors and omissions to ensure documentation is correct and compliant
  • Manage and chair design meetings to ensure minutes are properly documented and distributed
  • Liaise with clients to develop and maintain a continuing productive relationship
  • Manage documentation to facilitate the timely and cost-effective award of subcontract packages
  • Proficiently use software applications including document control platforms, Procore or experience in similar (Aconex, Team binder, Asite)

Skills & Experience needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferred), Construction Management, Architecture, or similar
  • Minimum 5 year’s experience in a similar role in construction
  • An understanding of the design and construction process from tender stage through to completion including Contracts, National Construction Code and Australian Standards
  • Experience in commercial/industrial construction projects
  • Excellent communication and solution orientation
  • Knowledge and use of Procore, MS Project, MS Excel, BlueBeam
  • Stable work experience history
